Tabuk City, the capital of Kalinga Province, is more than just a gateway to the Cordilleras—it’s a gold mine of natural wonders, historical landmarks, and cultural heritage. From a rolling terrain of haycock-shaped green grass mounds and majestic waterfalls to century-old tunnels and artistic tombs, this city offers a unique blend of adventure and history. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a history buff, or simply someone who loves scenic landscapes, Tabuk has something special for you.

In this guide, we’ll take you through some of the city’s must-visit destinations, each with its own story to tell. Get ready to explore the wonders of Tabuk City and uncover the beauty that lies within its landscapes and traditions.

Malalao Hills

About the Place:
Malalao Hills derives its name from the Igorot word “Ma-e-lao-lalao-lao,” meaning “bewildering or confusing.” However, visitors can easily admire its majestic beauty due to its accessible location, just 20 minutes from Bulanao. Comparable to Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, Malalao Hills features a rolling terrain of haycock-shaped green grass mounds, almost symmetrical in appearance. These unique formations extend between Kalinga and Isabela. The best time to visit is at sunset when migratory birds fly beneath the vast sky, making it perfect for sightseeing, biking, hiking, and picnics.

Directions:
Located in Barangay Malalao, Tabuk City, Kalinga, about 30 minutes from Dagupan Centro.

Nambaran Artistic Tombs

About the Place:
Established in 1986 as a government property, the Nambaran Artistic Tombs commemorate departed members of the Tulgao Tribe. This cemetery stands as an attraction in Barangay Nambaran due to the unique architectural designs of the tombs, which reflect the individuals’ dreams, wishes, and aspirations, keeping their memories alive.

Directions:
The cemetery is located about 25 minutes from Dagupan Centro, heading towards Tuguegarao City and the Municipality of Rizal.

Naneng Heritage Village

About the Place:
Naneng Heritage Village is considered the City’s Seat of Heritage and Culture. Its old European-inspired houses, built in the 1920s, have withstood the test of time due to durable all-weather materials like Narra, Guijo, and Lauan. The village is also home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, one of the oldest churches in the Cordilleras. Visitors can stay in a DOT-accredited homestay to enjoy a scenic view of the Naneng Rice Terraces and savor the local delicacy, Inandila.

Directions:
Naneng is located 35 minutes from Dagupan Centro.

Gessang Tunnel

About the Place:
Located in Mosimos Dupag, Tabuk City, Kalinga, the Gessang Tunnel derives its name from the Malbong Tribe’s term “Guessang,” meaning “falling rocks.” It serves as both a roadway for motorists and a refuge during rockfalls or landslides. Originally built to facilitate economic activity between towns, it has also become a tourist attraction due to its breathtaking surroundings.

Directions:
Gessang Tunnel is about an hour from Dagupan Centro.

Patiking Tunnel

About the Place:
Patiking Tunnel is a century-old man-made tunnel in Barangay Dupag, Tabuk City. Constructed during the American Era, locals manually carved through the sinking mountain to complete the national highway connecting Kalinga and Mountain Province. Aside from its historical significance, it plays a crucial role in trade and tourism, offering a scenic yet functional passage.

Directions:
Patiking Tunnel is 35 minutes from Dagupan Centro, located at Sitio Patiking along the 122 km Tabuk-Bontoc National Highway.

Chico River

About the Place:
The Chico River was once the site of a proposed hydroelectric dam project in 1973. However, the Kalinga people opposed it due to the threat it posed to their ancestral lands. Their resistance led to the project’s discontinuation. Today, the river remains an essential natural and cultural landmark in the region.

Directions:
Located in Barangay Bado Dangwa, about 20–25 minutes from Dagupan Centro, Tabuk City.

Bangabanga Falls

About the Place:
Nestled between the mountains of Balawag and Amlao, Bangabanga Falls is a haven for nature lovers. Its clear and refreshing waters, along with jar-like rock formations, create a stunning landscape. Folklore suggests that the natural pools have soothing and medicinal properties.

Directions:
Reaching the falls takes a 45-minute drive via Malin-awa, followed by a two-hour hike.

Dalimuno Park

About the Place:
Dalimuno Park, located in Barangay Bantay along the Tabuk-Bontoc Road, offers stunning views of the Chico River. It serves as Tabuk City’s Tourism Information and Assistance Area, providing support to tourists and rafting enterprises. The park is an ideal starting point for water adventures and other outdoor activities.

Directions:
Dalimuno Park is a 25-minute ride from Dagupan Centro.

White Carabao

About the Place:
The White Carabao statue stands at a key intersection leading to Barangay Dagupan, Tuguegarao, and other towns in Kalinga. Built with funds raised through the first Miss Kalinga popularity pageant in 1958, it symbolizes the region’s agricultural heritage and Tabuk’s status as Cordillera’s rice granary.

Directions:
Located at the intersection in Bulanao, in front of St. William’s Cathedral.
