From the capital city of Negros Oriental, Dumaguete, the town of Sibulan is 6 kilometers away and about 20 minutes road travel time. From a certain point you head up to the mountains, a steep and winding path, until you reach the area for disembarking. Finally, you make a short descent to the lake by way of a man-made stairway made from flat stones. The majestic and serene lake slowly unfolds before your eyes as with the silhouette of the mountains behind it.

Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao is situated in San Jose, Negros Oriental, Sibulan, Philippines. It was recognized last 2024 as one of the newest additions to the prestigious ASEAN Heritage Parks list. Joining two other Philippine sites in the list as a testament to the country’s dedication to biodiversity and sustainable tourism. Out of five newly designated ASEAN Heritage Parks, three are proudly from the Philippines—showcasing our rich ecological treasures and conservation efforts. Known for its peaceful twin lakes, diverse wildlife, and lush forests, this park offers not just a serene getaway but also a safe haven for many unique species. This recognition reminds us of the importance of protecting its beauty for generations to come.
The Twin Lakes is managed by the provincials very own Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Lake Balinsasayao, Lake Danao, and Kabalin-an Pond are included in the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, a protected area spanning 8,016 hectares (19,810 acres). It was established on November 21, 2000, through Proclamation No. 414, signed by former President Joseph Estrada.
